What If Democrats Are Responsible for Everything Bad That Happens?

Democrats have made a habit of misleading the public, resist accountability, and blocking common-sense measures—         responsibility, in their hands, is optional.

In response to a recent column, a reader writes, “I know that the Democrats are responsible for everything bad in the world. How else could it be?” Some readers are amazingly perspicacious, unless—gads!—he’s being facetious. Nevertheless, wittingly or unwittingly, he’s onto something. In recent memory, Democrats have been doing awful things, as any fair-minded person, even a hardened Democrat, should be able to recognize.

How have they misbehaved? Channeling our inner Elizabeth Barrett Browning, let us count the ways—or some of them.

Democrats promoted the idea that Trump had won the 2016 election with the assistance of Russia. The assertion was meant to undermine the legitimacy of the newly democratically elected president, which it did. But, as we now know—and Democrats are still shying away from this—there wasn’t any truth to the Democrats’ assertion at all. It was all part of Hillary Clinton’s opposition research, and they all knew it.

Until Democrats can acknowledge that fraud, they really don’t have standing to discuss any failings they think Republicans may have. Case closed.

But we’ll continue nevertheless.

In March 2017, Rep. Adam Schiff (D–CA, and now a senator from California!) told Chuck Todd on MSNBC that there was “more than circumstantial evidence” of Trump’s colluding with Russia, continuing, “I don’t want to go into specifics, but I will say that there is evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation, so that is what we ought to do.” That was a bald-faced lie. When is he going to be denounced by Democrats?

In a March 2019 interview with Morning Joe, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D–CT) warned, “We need to understand what Vladimir Putin and the Trump campaign may have done together. But also, the obstruction of justice that was done by the president of the United States in real time. There are indictments in this president’s future. They’re coming, whether they’re after his presidency or during it.” This from a man who lied about his military service in order to get elected.

In a July 2019 interview on Fox News, House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler (D–NY) told Chris Wallace, “I think there is very substantial—well, the [Mueller] report presents very substantial evidence that the president is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors. . . .”

On the day of the Ukraine impeachment vote, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D–CA) repeatedly described Trump as “an ongoing threat to our national security.”

In a January 13 speech on the House floor relating to the January 6 “insurrection,” Pelosi chastised Trump, saying, “We know that the president of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion, against our common country. He must go. He is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love.”

There was never any proof that Trump incited the rioters, and, in fact, the person who may have been most responsible for what eventually happened was . . . Nancy Pelosi, for denying the police protection recommended to her in her capacity as Speaker of the House. Readers are free to guess why she refused.

And what can Democrats say now about the Hunter Biden laptop scandal? Fifty former Democrat spooks lined up by Antony Blinken sought to persuade the American people that the laptop, with all of its scandalous information about things Biden, was not genuine, that it was just Russian disinformation, when they all knew that was a lie. Polling indicated that if the American public had known that, Biden would not have won the election. For his troubles, Blinken was appointed Secretary of State. Don’t any Democrats care about that carefully orchestrated lie?

How has Trump fared in the courts? Badly in the district courts, carefully forum-shopped by the Democrats to increase their chances of victory there. Then how have the Dems fared on appeal? Not so well. In 245 district court rulings, Trump lost 59 percent of the time. But at the Supreme Court, in the 25 cases analyzed by one Trump opponent, Trump won 84 percent of the time. No wonder the Democrats want to pack the Court.

Now, Democrats are opposing requiring voters to show identification in order to vote. They say it’s Jim Crow 2.0. That’s utter nonsense. According to the Pew Research Center, 83 percent of American adults support requiring voters to show a government-issued photo ID to vote, and that includes 71 percent of Democrats and 95 percent of Republicans. Polls also show that 76 percent of blacks support voter ID. But Democrats keep hoping that the “Jim Crow” charge will keep on working.

Democrats are also whining that the president needed a formal declaration of war to deal with Iran. They didn’t require that when Barack Obama was president and spent seven months dropping bombs on Libya. Why now?

Senator Chris Murphy (D–CT) claimed, “This president is intentionally tanking our economy; he’s the most corrupt president in the history of our nation, and Americans want him to focus on the crises here at home. Instead, he is busy getting us involved in quagmires overseas that are already becoming deadly to American soldiers.”

That’s utter nonsense, as any private school tenth grader could see. Given that the November election will probably turn on the economy, why would Trump intentionally tank the economy? And is it really accurate to describe a war that has been going on for less than a week as a “quagmire?” What high school did Murphy go to?

And what does he mean when he says, “quagmires overseas that are already becoming deadly to American soldiers”? (1) How many “quagmires” are we involved in? (2) Is it Murphy’s thinking (reader warning: the word “thinking” here is used loosely) that no soldier should ever die in any military action?

And now, at a time of the highest threat to national security that we’ve had in years, which is largely the result of the millions of illegal, unvetted immigrants let into the country during the Biden years, the Democrats refuse to fund the agency that is charged with protecting the American people. You just can’t make this stuff up.

So I say to the reader, Democrats may not be responsible for everything bad in the world, but they are certainly responsible for a lot of it.

How else could it be? It could be entirely different if Democrats weren’t afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome. At this writing, however, there is no cure for TDS.
