Montana Landowner To Try And Prove Fraud In Court In Whitefish Credit Union Lawsuit
Dennis Thornton may be down, but is far from out.

On January 20, 2026, landowner and business owner Dennis Thornton appeared before Flathead County, Montana, Judge Dan Wilson in a status hearing that has drawn attention for its allegations of judicial misconduct and fraud. Thornton, whose company Thorco, Inc. claims it lost control of roughly 500 acres of land to Whitefish Credit Union, is attempting to present evidence of what he describes as fraud upon the court — a serious claim that, if proven, would indicate that the judicial process itself was corrupted.
Thornton alleges that the credit union used invalid deeds and improper legal filings to obtain his property, and that important documents were mishandled or misrepresented in court proceedings.
His supporters and expert reports assert that this dispute could involve complex actions by banking attorneys and potentially systemic issues in how the title was transferred. The January 20, 2026, status hearing focused on Thornton’s bid to have the court recognize and act on these allegations.
Thornton was joined by Senator Mark Noland (LD5) and Rep. Lukas Schubert (District 8).
