Accountability … to the Voters
With the election win of the Community Library Network’s two new trustees in May, the new board is making inroads on changes. The budget battle took the entire summer, but in the end, the board was able to provide staff pay raises without tax increases. Additionally, a huge win occurred last week with CLN’s board officially severing ties to the American Library Association (ALA) which is the endorser of sexually-explicit books for kids disguised under the labels of “diversity, equity and inclusion.” Hear this sleight of hand from the ALA’s Director of the “Office of Intellectual Freedom”: LINK
Next up for CLN: revising the policies regarding materials for minors. It’ll take a few meetings, but it’ll happen.

Onto the Next and Worse Offender … Coeur d’Alene Library
CLN has multiple branches to CDA’s one facility. Sadly, in CDA’s one library, the collection of kids’ materials is even worse than CLN. Can’t believe their collection is that bad? Dozens of examples can be found at: https://www.cleanbooks4kids.com/
It’s not just books that are highly inappropriate in CDA; it’s their kids’ programs, too. Wicked, literally: CDA Arty Afternoons with Abby Light
To further complicate matters, CDA’s library board is completely separate from CLN and is appointed by the CDA City Council – not elected by the voters.
So, how changes can be made to the CDA library? New city council members are needed to appoint new trustees who will make changes since the current board has no interest in changes.
It can happen on November 7.
