Can Democrats Overcome Their Agenda?
Watching the sagas of incapacitated Dems like Sleepy Joe, Diane Feinstein, and John Fetterman unfold, even died-in-the-wool party loyalists are becoming concerned. With Democrats now the party of wokesters and jokesters, one wonders how it can survive, let alone stay in power.
Notwithstanding their remarkable ability to outlie and outmaneuver their enemies, Democrats have a habit of doing some really dumb things, often a result of their lack of self-awareness. And holding the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago is a really dumb thing. Is it just a Freudian slip on the part of party leaders or is there something more sinister at play here?
Let’s face it, much of politics is about optics. Does the party of Satanism not realize that the 1968 Democratic National Convention is still remembered for the bloody riots surrounding it, riots that left 11 dead, 48 wounded, and more than 2,000 arrested? The antiwar hippies had already succeeded in pressuring Lyndon Johnson into stepping aside and not run for reelection in 1968, and they were becoming louder and more violent by the day.
Today, with young people even more radical than their counterparts of the late sixties, Democrats are likely to have their hands full trying to control the Gen Z and Millennial crowd that is sure to descend upon the windy city. In 1968, they were protesting the Vietnam War — especially the government’s lies about the Vietnam War — but today the newest lie-infested war, this one in Ukraine, has not yet gotten their full attention. Instead, emotionally disturbed young activists are angry about a litany of other things, mostly silly stuff like “climate change,” trans issues, and (yawn) racism.
In comparing the upcoming 2024 convention to 1968, also keep in mind that two major changes have occurred over the past 50+ years. First, it is now acceptable for those who vote Democrat to engage in violence. That’s right, if you’re a Democrat in 2023 America, you can riot and loot to your heart’s content, even set fire to government buildings, without fear of being incarcerated — or even prosecuted.
Second, whereas 1960s protestors railed against the capitalist system and “the man,” Gen Z and Millennial protestors are now aligned with the man. In 1968, no one could have imagined corporate America entering into an unholy alliance with young, anti-establishment leftists, but time has a habit of changing things. What it amounts to is a voluntary shakedown where both sides fully understand what’s going on (the enemy of my enemy is my friend), but they’re okay with it because everyone benefits.
Violence aside, political watchers are quite curious about what the 2024 Democrat platform will look like. We know that their real agenda includes such unpopular items as defunding the police, gun control, trans issues, open borders, massive government spending, banning gas-powered vehicles, reparations for an impossible-to-define group of people, infanticide, tax increases, student-debt cancellation, and more. The question is, how in the world do Democrats plan to sell their radical agenda to voters?
The answer, I believe, is that they won’t try to sell it directly. Instead, they will focus more on distractions, hyperbole, name-calling, and virtue signaling than on real issues. Anything to take voters’ minds off of serious issues like inflation, crime, security leaks, spy balloons, rigged elections, fentanyl deaths, COVID misinformation, bank failures, green legislation that benefits the rich and hurts the poor, and, most important of all, the “China threat” (including the fact that Joe Biden has been on China’s payroll for years).
The biggest distraction of all will be the Democrats’ attempt to continue making Donald Trump the focal point of the nation’s problems. It’s absurd, of course, but why not continue with something that has worked so beautifully in the past?
As to real issues, Democrats will gratuitously address them, but in doing so they will employ their specialty — lying. More specifically, they will tell 180-degree whoppers, i.e., lies that are the polar opposite of the truth. These include such doozies as Republicans want to defund the police, the border is in chaos because Republicans refuse to pass a serious immigration-reform law, inflation has been caused by Donald Trump, greedy capitalists, and Vladimir Putin … blah, blah, blah.
Will their blatant chicanery work? Unfortunately, yes. The only question is to what extent? Remember, unlike Republicans, at least a third of Democrats will always vote for their party’s candidates, quality be damned. Their focus is always on destroying their evil enemies at all costs, even if they themselves are hurt in the process. The question then becomes, how many halfway “moderate” Democrats will say they’ve had enough pain and jump ship?
That said, there’s also a huge wild card in the 2024 race, and it’s not on the Democrat side of things. It’s what the outcome of the ugly war between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis will be. If the war is allowed to spin out of control, Democrats might just succeed in retaining the White House. It’s a frightening thought, but as we witnessed in 2020, it can actually happen. Attention Ron and Don: For the sake of the country’s survival — and probably your own political careers — keep in mind that discretion is the better part of valor.
Finally, as election time grows near, let us not forget that Democrats are sure to go nuclear with their newest version of an October surprise — or maybe two or three October surprises — so nothing is certain. Combine that with their highly sophisticated election-fraud capabilities, and Republicans will once again have their hands full no matter who they nominate.
