A wake up call for Christians…..or too late?
By Bob Shillingstad
I have been promoting a unified approach to the battles we have been fighting in the cultural war. This was brought home this last week with the protest at the CDA library. The CDA library has been sponsoring the “Rainbow Squad” the last few years. There were protestors from one church with Pastor Steve Hemming confirming they were from his church and he made a solid case that these government sponsored programs are in violation of God’s word and Biblical truth.
Pastor Steve is the “lone ranger” twisting in the wind on this issue. You can read the articles below and you will notice the Human Rights Center was quick to jump in and defend the Rainbow mafia. Where was a similar faith based group of pastors and Christian leaders not just to defend Steve but to take up the cause in the first place?
I have encouraged this move for the last several years but it is obvious that churches, blogs and many Christians are territorial, competitive and would rather divide than unite with one voice of truth. There are not many also with the courage of Steve Hemming.
I have included the column I had submitted to some blogs this last week. I have been told it is very one-sided and slanted. I was told by the local editor at the paper that my columns on Christian ministry were becoming too “political”. The apostle Paul exhorted us in Romans chapter 13 to be good citizens and that is good advice to a point. Paul obviously felt it necessary to go beyond and Caesar took his head off. When we compromise and keep our mouth shut and believe that truth is too political we end up with a government that says “bake the cake bigot” and “celebrate the wedding” to florists and bakers who object. We are in a cultural war that affects all Christians, our children and grandchildren.
When do we speak as one voice, for example, and say that CRT is in direct violation of the Genesis account?
Decades ago I taught high school at a medium sized Montana high school. The first week the Principal put us on notice that the Ministerial Association asked that there not be any activities on Wednesday evenings since that was youth/family night at the churches. It was not the request of one pastor, but the entire association. They had influence there and elsewhere. Another time, another place and maybe long past but it is an example of what happens when we use the influence of the pulpit in the community.
