Little’s plan lacks grocery tax repeal, student choice initiative

Idaho Freedom Foundation President Wayne Hoffman issued the following statement following Monday’s State of the State address:

“I’m delighted that Gov. Brad Little has set aside money for tax relief, but I’m at a loss as to why the governor refuses to keep his campaign promise to eliminate the sales tax on groceries.

Additionally, it’s disheartening to hear the governor speak so fondly of officials who used the force of government to shut down the economy, costing people their livelihoods.

Little also spoke glowingly about his Strong Families program, a school choice initiative which was a godsend to thousands of Idahoans, yet Little’s 2021 plan continues dumping money into the failing government education system. Idaho students and families deserve better.

State lawmakers should chart their own course: End the state of emergency. Repeal the tax on groceries. Give parents and their kids’ freedom to choose the education experience that best suits their needs.

These are extraordinary times, requiring a big, bold vision, not more of the same boring, recycled ideas from past legislative sessions.”
